Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers to common questions

How do I calculate the number of tiles needed?+

Tiles needed = Floor Area ÷ Tile Area, then add 10% wastage for cutting and breakage. Example: a 20m² room with 600mm × 600mm (0.36m²) tiles needs 20 ÷ 0.36 = 55.6 tiles, rounded up to 56, then +10% wastage = 62 tiles. Always round up to the nearest whole tile, and to the nearest full box when ordering.

How much wastage should I allow for tiles?+

10% is standard for simple rectangular rooms. Increase to 15% for rooms with many corners, diagonal tile layouts, or complex cuts around fixtures (like toilets or pillars). Diagonal (45°) layouts typically waste more material than straight grid layouts due to more triangular cut pieces.

How many tiles come in a box?+

This varies significantly by tile size and manufacturer — always check the specific box, as it's usually printed on the packaging (e.g., a 600×600mm box often contains 4 tiles = 1.44m², while smaller tiles come 8-10 per box). This calculator lets you enter your specific box quantity for an accurate box count.
