How do I calculate the number of bricks needed for a wall?+

Bricks needed = Wall Area ÷ (Brick Face Area + Mortar Joint Area). For a standard Indian brick (190mm × 90mm face) with a 10mm mortar joint, effective brick size becomes 200mm × 100mm. Wall area (m²) ÷ (0.2m × 0.1m) gives bricks per m². A 10m² wall needs approximately 500 bricks at this size. Always add 5-10% extra for breakage and cutting waste.

What is the standard brick size in India?+

The most common Indian brick size (modular brick, per IS 1077) is 190mm × 90mm × 90mm. Non-modular traditional bricks are often 230mm × 110mm × 75mm. Always confirm your supplier's exact brick dimensions before ordering, as sizes vary by region and manufacturer.

How much wastage should I add when ordering bricks?+

Standard practice is 5% wastage for straight wall construction and 8-10% for walls with many corners, arches, or cut bricks (around doors/windows). This accounts for breakage during transport, handling, and on-site cutting.
