Paint Calculator — How Much Paint Do You Need?

Standard emulsion paint covers approximately 10-12 m² per liter per coat, though coverage varies by paint type, surface texture, and application method (roller vs spray). Textured or porous surfaces (like new plaster) absorb more paint and reduce coverage to 8-9 m²/liter. Always check your specific paint can's coverage rating.

Two coats is standard for most interior wall painting — the first coat seals the surface, the second gives even color and finish. Dark colors over light walls (or vice versa) may need a third coat. A primer coat is recommended separately for new plaster or bare walls, and is not counted as one of the color coats.

Wall area = Room perimeter × Wall height − (door area + window area). Then: Liters needed = (Wall area × Number of coats) ÷ Coverage rate per liter. Example: 40m² wall area, 2 coats, 10m²/liter coverage = (40 × 2) ÷ 10 = 8 liters needed.
